Experiment 04 was made with the compressed images contained within the latent space representation during each machine learning session shown below. A latent space representation refers to the stage at which data is compressed while the training model stores relevant information to reconstruct images. Latent space is occupied by the compressed representation of the original dataset. The decoder can only use the information provided by the latent space representation to recreate the encoder data as accurately as possible. In this case,
the encoder information was a series of insect images from Google.
The film below captures the translation between encoder and decoder. Insects are a symbol of manipulation, control and disgust. This piece is an unconventional documentary depicting technology’s impact on Posthumanism and its ability to allow for new ways of playing God.
