Experiment 05
Made with Gaugan

This piece was created using a software called Gaugan. The program works by uploading drawings or landscape images to be translated into a photorealistic style using segmentation maps. Segmentation maps are labeled sketches that assign object-based meaning to a series of colours and shapes. This book utilizes the training steps from Experiment 03. The images on the left-hand side of the spread are segmentation maps of the training phases from Experiment 03. The images on the right-hand side of the spread are the translations of the segmentation maps into a photorealistic image. This piece exhibits the Posthumanist landscapes made with Gaugan’s artificial intelligence software and how different machines interpret similar source imagery.
